About the project
The study is initiated and financed by the European Commission, DG TREN, in
their work with the EuP directive (2005/32/EC) and is one of fourteen ongoing
studies described at the following link:
http://europa.eu.int/comm/energy/demand/legislation/doc/2006_tenders_list_signed_en.pdf.
Main objective of the study
Directive 2005/32/EC provides for establishing eco-design requirements for
energy-using products (EuP). The first step in considering whether and which
eco-design requirements should be set for a particular product is a preparatory
study looking into the relevant provisions of the Directive and recommending
ways to improve the environmental performance of the product. The preparatory
study shall provide the necessary information to prepare for the next phases
(carried out by the Commission) and in particular the impact assessment, the
consultation of the Forum and a draft of possible implementation measures.
Methodology
The study will follow the VHK methodology (see picture below). The methodology
is further described at
http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/eco_design/finalreport1.pdf
